«Die diesjährige Konzertserie des aulos war in mehrfacher Hinsicht überwältigend: durch das inspirierte und inspirierende Dirigat José Vilaplanas, durch die Meisterschaft und überschäumende Spielfreude des Orchesters, und nicht zuletzt durch das musikalisch und emotional eindrückliche Konzertprogramm. Das Orchester meisterte die apokalyptischen Abgründe in der Musik Paul Hubers ebenso wie der Solist Niklaus Egg die hochvirtuose Dramaturgie im Trompetenkonzert von Stephenson. Wie das Aulos sodann in meinem Stück "Out of Earth" das weite Spannungsfeld zwischen der dunkel leuchtenden Lyrik im ersten, der zerklüfteten Dramatik im zweiten und der unmittelbaren, rhythmischen Elektrizität im dritten Satz auszuloten vermochte, war atemberaubend. Die rundum gelungene Aufnahme ist für mich eine Erinnerung an eines der eindrücklichsten Konzertprojekte, an denen ich im Kontext sinfonischer Bläserbesetzungen bislang beteiligt war.»

In I. The Unicorn, the sadness and emotion depicted by Dali’s sculpture of the pierced heart on the wall and the distraught lady on the floor is fully musically symbolized by the Aulos interpretation. Wonderful euphonium and sax solos!! II. Don Quijote – from the Spanish-isms, drama, and the Don’s fight with the windmills, no visual effects are needed. Aulos make them come across so musically well. That horn section is awesome!!! III. Elephant Spatial – The band glides across all the varying meters and comical moods with great precision and brings out the bizarre look of the elephant in the Dalí paintings and sculptures of the “surrealistic elephant”. Bravo to the bassoon, tuba, and bari sax soloists and also the WILD trombone section! In the fourth movement Aulos and Vilaplana keep the “tick tock metronome” of Dalí’s melting clocks going with the preci! sion of a Swiss watch!! Great sax solo work once again! V. Inferno – Wow once again!! What massive and ferocious sound comes out of this ensemble!!! The glorification of the great artist Salvador Dalí in the final bars of the work is so magnifently depicted by Aulos and Vilaplana and provides a superb ending to my work. This is simply one of the greatest renditions of any of my works! Vielen Dank and Muchísimas Gracias!!»

«I wanted simply to say that the performance is very, very good. When I get CDs in the mail I have no idea what the quality of performance is going to be. This one was a pleasure! Things that I liked: your conductor clearly understood the score in a deep way, and was able to ask for a true sound; the band is technically excellent and was deeply engaged in the music; the sound that the band was able to achieve was phenomenal. Larger bands often do not play with centered tone or centered rhythm, but the sound of the Aulos band was *delicious.*
Altogether it was a joy to listen to your performance - clear, beautiful sonorities, clear textures and insightful music making - and especially to realize at the end that this was before a live audience.
